QS World University Rankings

The QS Europe University Rankings evaluates universities across Europe using a set of indicators adapted to reflect the specific strengths and priorities of the European higher education landscape.

The ranking builds on the core indicators used in the QS World University Rankings while incorporating additional metrics relevant to the European context.

Indicator Definitions

Academic Reputation (30%)

Based on the QS Academic Survey, in which academics worldwide nominate institutions demonstrating excellence in their field.

Employer Reputation (15%)

Based on the QS Employer Survey, capturing which universities employers prefer to recruit graduates from.

Faculty Student Ratio (5%)

Measures the number of academic staff relative to enrolled students.

Citations per Faculty (10%)

Measures the average number of citations per faculty member, normalized for institution size. Data is sourced from Scopus.

International Research Network (10%)

Evaluates the breadth and sustainability of cross-border research partnerships based on sustained collaborations resulting in joint publications.

Papers per Faculty (5%)

Measures research output as the number of publications per faculty member.

Staff with PhD (5%)

The proportion of academic staff holding doctoral degrees.

International Faculty Ratio (5%)

The proportion of faculty members who are international.

International Student Ratio (5%)

The proportion of students who are international.

Employment Outcomes (5%)

Assesses an institution's track record in producing graduates who achieve high levels of employability and career success.

Sustainability (5%)

Evaluates the institution's commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles, including on-campus sustainability initiatives, diversity programmes, and research impact across the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
