Texas: A Top Choice for International Students in the U.S.

Recent survey reports show that the most popular U.S. destinations for international students are California, New York, and Texas.

In general, there are two main reasons a region appeals to international students: abundant job opportunities or rich educational resources.

Today, let’s take a closer look at Texas and see what makes it such an attractive place to study abroad.

Texas, often abbreviated as the Lone Star State, is the largest state in the southern United States and the second-largest state in the country after Alaska. It has abundant natural resources, and its energy, petrochemical, agriculture, electronics, aerospace, and biopharmaceutical industries are all highly developed, giving it an important place in the U.S. economy. Historically, it also had a strong cattle industry and is the birthplace of cowboy culture, which is why Texas has such a strong cowboy image.

In terms of transportation, Texas is not only well connected but also an important trade hub linking North America and Latin America. As a result, many well-known companies have built factories there. Fifty-seven Fortune 500 companies are headquartered in Texas, helping the state earn repeated praise as one of the most business-friendly places in the United States.

In recent years, as Texas’s economy has continued to grow, the state has offered not only plenty of jobs but also very competitive salaries, attracting more and more international students to study there.

Compared with many other states, Texas is much more affordable, and that is true not only for tuition but also for living expenses and housing prices. As a result, students studying in Texas face far less financial pressure.

At the same time, Texas has one of the most complete and advanced university systems in the south-central United States, including Rice University, often called the "Harvard of the South," as well as the University of Texas, the University of Texas at Austin, Baylor University, Rice University, and the University of Houston.

Matching these renowned universities are many well-developed cultural institutions. Texas is home to famous museums such as the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, the Kimbell Art Museum, and the Fort Worth Museum of Art. There are also many symphony orchestras, where you can enjoy a wide range of music, including blues, country, rock, and classical. Across university campuses, it is also common to see various theater productions staged by student theater groups.

Interestingly, studying in Texas gives you a strong sense that "everything is bigger." For example, people drink big beverages, eat large portions of meat, and catch huge fish. In such an environment, studying abroad can be a very fun experience.
